What Your Videos Say When You're Not Listening
Blind to your mentions? Uncover what's said about your brand inside every video and podcast.
The brand mention that matters most is the one nobody tagged.
Someone holds your product up on camera in a 90-second video. Someone says your catchphrase in passing. Someone wears your merch in a thumbnail. None of it is captioned, hashtagged, or tagged. None of it appears in your alerts. It moves past you and disappears into the feed.
Standard social listening is built around metadata. Captions, hashtags, mentions, alt text. The infrastructure is two decades old and assumes that anything important will be labeled. That assumption has not been true for years.
Most of what gets said about you, your brand, your product, your work, gets said inside video and audio content where there is no caption to surface it. The mention happens at minute three of a fifteen-minute episode. The product cameo happens for two seconds in a Reel. The endorsement happens in a livestream nobody indexed.
This is solvable. The class of tools that analyzes the actual content of video and audio (every frame, every spoken word, every visual element) has matured. You can monitor what people are actually saying about you instead of what they have remembered to tag.
Inventory what you currently monitor. Most creators have alerts on hashtags, mentions, and brand keywords across text platforms. Note the gap. Anything that happens inside video or audio content goes uncaught.
Identify the surfaces that matter. Where do creators in your niche actually talk about your category? YouTube long-form, podcast clips, Twitch streams, TikTok review videos. Your monitoring should cover the surfaces, not just the platforms.
Add one video-content listening tool to your stack. Several exist. The point is not which one. The point is that you stop being blind to mentions that happen inside the medium where most of your category lives.
Set the alerts to be useful, not noisy. Your name, your brand, your top three products, and the names of your closest competitors. More than that becomes spam. Less than that misses the mentions that move deals.
Add a weekly fifteen-minute review to actually look at what came in. The tool only matters if a human reads the output.
The conversations about you are happening every day in places your current tools can't see. Closing that gap is small work with a long tail of compounding value. Sponsorship opportunities surface earlier. Misuse gets caught faster. The full picture of how your work is actually being received becomes available to you instead of staying hidden in the audio.
